Located right next to Paral-lel metro stop in the heart of Barcelona’s ultra-trendy Sant Antoni barrio, La Confitería bar is perfect for vermouth aperitifs and pre-theatre gin and tonics, unquestionably one of my favourite spots in town.
With its vintage gold signage, intricate carpentry and opulent glass chandeliers, this ancient Modernist masterpiece feels more Paris than Barcelona.
If it seems familiar, it might be because it featured in Woody Allen’s film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
It was a sweet shop for the best part of a century and the decor has been kept exactly as it was (since 1912), albeit with bottles of gin gracing the back shelves instead of sweet jars. It’s increasingly popular with the locals, who swing by for a quick vermouth before lunch or a stiff gin and tonic after work.
Make it Happen
Just a 5 second walk from Paral-lel metro stop, this is the perfect meeting place. Do as my friends and I do and meet here before heading out for drinks and tapas on the ultra-hip Carrer Parliament and pincho-tastic Carrer Blai, which are both within stumbling distance. Or go alone with a book and get your Hemingway on.
